To avoid causing any social distress associated with not knowing how to properly dress for our event, we thought a guide to our made-up attire code words might be in order. Without being prescriptive, we wanted to offer some guidance that we'd probably appreciate if we were in your position.
In general, you will probably want to dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes. Many of our events are outdoors so plan to have shoes that can handle grassy fields and dirt paths. Although we do plan to go indoors as the sun sets (or in the event of rain), we'd like to take advantage of the beautiful scenery as much as possible.!
Here are a few thoughts:
Outing Attire
Devils Postpile National Monument, Mono Lake Tufa State Park
Comfortable walking shoes/ hiking boots suitable for paved and dirt trails
The Mono Lake beach has some clingy prominent white sand that can get on shoes. When you visit, it's probably best to avoid wearing your nicest shoes
None of the outings are strenuous, but you will probably be most comfortable in clothes that ventilate well
Be sure to bring a jacket or cover
Mountain Casual
Welcome Dinner on Friday Night
You can probably wear whatever you wore to the Devils Postpile outing- the welcome dinner venue is right outside the entrance of the National Monument and it will be particularly efficient to finish the outing right at the restaurant
Hiking boots welcome
Hiking pants / slacks or khakis
Informal sun dresses/ fun skirts
Dressy hiking shirts / nice blouses
Dressy sweaters / decorative sweaters and dark jeans
Outdoor/Rustic Semi-Formal
Wedding Ceremony, Cocktail Hour, Reception Dinner on Saturday
We are also not terribly formal people, so we are not throwing a terribly formal event. We invite our guests to therefore avoid "black/white tie" attire.
Suits with or without jackets
Dark slacks and a button up shirt
Ties / vests / suspenders welcome (William loves vests)
Longer dresses/skirts
We will be wearing some nice hiking-style boots - feel free to join us!
