January 17 update
We finally found the time to get the remaining things from our first host and bring them back to where we are staying, so people, pets, and our remaining possessions are all in one place again for the first time this week. Autumn was reunited with her Celestial Buddies, courtesy of one of Laura's coworkers. We visited another relief space organized by people from JPL, where we were able to work on a number of things while Autumn had a variety of things to keep her entertained. This evening, a coworker hosted dinner for us and a number of others in Laura's organization at JPL, some of whom also lost their homes in the Eaton fire. Despite the circumstances, it was good to engage with our coworkers again.
We were contacted by a FEMA inspector to begin the process of addressing our claim for damages. It was consistent with the process that others at JPL and the community have gone through with FEMA, and we were able to verify the person's identifying information directly with the national hotline, so we're reasonably certain this is an official contact.
Finally, the county reporting website for the house-by-house investigation finally included our address. Our house and garage were confirmed as '>50% destroyed', with a recent photo posted of the remains of each structure. It is good to have this official confirmation, but no word yet on timelines for the expected cleanup of the hazardous materials in the area.
