January 12 (Sunday) status
This morning we were able to start planning in terms of days rather than hours. We went out to collect some core supplies, where Laura and Autumn were approached by media from France covering the crisis. All of the supply centers also generously loaded Autumn up with care packages and toys, so she had an exciting time. Someone in our extended network who was volunteering took the time to put together a customized package just for her.
We were able to reconnect with some colleagues and friends at an event hosted by a group of coworkers, going by the name of Angel Flight. Autumn found a cozy pile of pillows and blankets and dove right in. We had lunch and got some additional information about recovery resources, and swapped stories with others affected by the fire. It was great to see people and we look forward to the next event.
We've also been able to work on some logistics for our planned medium-term housing solution (some more generous friends) that is within a mile of our former home. They are still affected by the poor water quality resulting from the fire, so we're waiting for the water to become safe, the fire to be more contained, and the upcoming wind event to pass before moving there. Our current hosts are continuing to welcome us in their home so that we have the space to wait for the right time to move.
We're about halfway done with our initial inventory of the losses, and are have identified some near-term replacement items that will be needed in our next location. Thanks to the generosity of the Mars Helicopter team Gofundme and many others, we've been able to start addressing these needs. A few of our colleagues/friends have reached out and are helping to source donations that match specific items we've identified.
